A project for the inventories of all the Mediterranean island wetlands (2017-2020)

The Mediterranean Island Wetlands project (MedisWet) is a joined Mediterranean project that will enable the replication of the Greek island wetland project (http://www.oikoskopio.gr/ygrotopio/) and Cyprus wetland project (http://www.cypruswetlands.org) to all the islands of the Mediterranean Basin. The project is funded by MAVA (MAVA fondation pour la nature) and includes actions for the completion of the inventories of all the Mediterranean island wetlands, highlighting their importance and the services they provide and promotion of certain conservation measures in local, national and Mediterranean scale.

The project will contribute to the full implementation of Ramsar Resolution XII.14 “Conservation of Mediterranean Basin island wetlands” and to the achievement of Ramsar Convention’s and MedWet’s objectives. Terra Cypria in the framework of MedisWet project will also inspect the 373 wetlands identified in Cyprus, in order to select the ones of higher environmental and ecological value, and in collaboration with competent authorities promote both the implementation of restoration measures and the creation of a legal binding framework for their protection.
