Job Description
Terra Cypria – The Cyprus Conservation Foundation is seeking a Nature Conservation and Communications Officer to support the implementation of the project “Management, Conservation and Restoration of Natural and Semi-natural Areas in Akrotiri and Agios Nikolaos”, which is funded by the Darwin Plus programme. The successful candidate will contribute to both environmental conservation actions and communication activities, working both in the office and in the field.
Key Responsibilities
The Nature Conservation and Communications Officer will:
- Organize and implement communication, networking, and awareness-raising activities, highlighting the ecological significance of the project areas (Akrotiri and Agios Nikolaos).
- Manage and regularly update the project website.
- Prepare and promote project actions through social media, websites, and newsletters.
- Organize events and seminars based on the Program’s needs.
- Participate in management and eradication actions for invasive alien species (e.g., Acacia saligna / Acacia).
- Participate in conservation actions for the management and protection of orchid populations.
- Support conservation actions aiming at the protection, restoration, and enhancement of Habitat Type 5220* within the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) of Agios Nikolaos.
- Assist in the development of an agri-environmental plan for farmers in the Agios Nikolaos area.
- Cooperate closely with the Executive Director, project partners, and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of project activities.
- Assist in monitoring, reporting, and documenting the project as required.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc) or higher in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
- Excellent knowledge of Greek and English, both written and spoken.
- Very good computer literacy, including excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability and willingness to conduct field work under varied environmental conditions.
- Flexibility to work occasionally on evenings or weekends, when required.
- Driving license and ability to travel within Cyprus for the purposes of the Program.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Desirable Additional Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MSc) or higher in a related field.
- At least one year of professional experience in environmental protection, ecological research, environmental communication, or a related field.
- Experience in stakeholder consultation.
- Experience in website and social media platform management.
