On the 27th of October, Terra Cypria actively engaged in the bicommunal seminar titled “Sustainability of water and energy supply and waste management in Cyprus within the framework of a peaceful, equitable, and feasible resolution of the Cyprus Problem, and the broader concern of climate change”.
Our Conservation officer, Zoe Makridou, took the floor to discuss the Darwin Plus Project 141: “Habitat restoration and prudent usage for Akrotiri and Cape Pyla”. Zoe delved into the project’s current initiatives and goals, highlighting the critical focus on addressing water management issues prevalent on the Akrotiri Peninsula. Furthermore, she explained on the project’s instrumental role in facilitating an in-depth hydrological study of Zakaki Marsh, enabling a better understanding of the practical reed management solutions essential for the preservation of a thriving ecosystem in the region.
The seminar was carried out by the Cyprus Peace and Dialogue Center, in collaboration with the Glafkos Clerides Institute and the Next Century Foundation. It took place at the Ledra Palace Hotel, with the valuable participation of scientists and organizations from all corners of the island.
