Environmental organisations Terra Cypria, BirdLife Cyprus, Friends of the Earth Cyprus, Cyprus Wildlife Society, and the Initiative for the Protection of Natural Coasts are calling on the President of the Republic to take immediate action for the effective protection of nature in Cyprus, demanding the full implementation of the environmental commitments included in the 2023 Governance Programme.
Through an open letter, we call for transparency, accountability, and concrete measures for the conservation of biodiversity, the effective protection and management of Natura 2000 sites, as well as the immediate implementation of the legally binding environmental terms for the Akamas National Forest Park.
The ongoing delays, arbitrary interventions, and operation of illegal premises within and near protected areas are undermining our natural environment and putting one of Cyprus’ most important natural treasures at risk.
Protecting and preserving our shared natural heritage is our responsibility towards future generations.
