On Monday, 17 November, at the Journalists’ House, an event titled “Media and Climate: From Information to Participation” took place. The event was organised by Terra Cypria – The Cyprus Environmental Protection Foundation, with the support of the Union of Cyprus Journalists.
The gathering brought together experts from the relevant authorities, civil society, and the journalism community to explore a critical question:
How can the media communicate more effectively about the climate crisis, and how can information become a real bridge to action?
Throughout the event, key issues were presented relating to:
• the scientific dimensions of the climate crisis
• climate policies in the EU and Cyprus
• the role and challenges of environmental journalism
Presentations were delivered by Maria Constantinou (Terra Cypria), Dr. Nikoletta Kythreotou (Department of Environment), and Dr. George Pavlidis (journalist – academic). Opening remarks were given by Cleitos Papastylianou on behalf of Terra Cypria and Dimitris Stratis on behalf of the Union of Cyprus Journalists.
Following the opening remarks and presentations, an open discussion took place, during which speakers and participants exchanged views, experiences, concerns, and proposals. The discussion was lively and constructive, highlighting the importance of collaboration between public administration, civil society, and the journalism community.
