As a member of Eurosite, we had the pleasure of hosting the organization’s annual general meeting on 8th-10th of November.
During the three-day event, attendees had the opportunity to participate in discussions, presentations and workshops on nature conservation, stretching from Eurosite’s Annual General Meeting to keynotes from the International Land Conservation Network to a flurry of speed presentations, and two field trips, which were the highlight of the last day.
In one of the activities, the “Eurococktail”, the representatives of each country displayed traditional local drinks and dishes. On the last day, the participants had the opportunity to go on excursions, divided in two groups. The first group visited the wetlands of the Eastern side of the island (Paralimni lake, Oroklini lake and Larnaca salt lakes). During our visit to Paralimni, we talked to the owners of the protected land and the management, while visits to Oroklini and Larnaca were combined with birdwatching.
The second visit took place in protected areas in the mountains and in the village of Lania with for “Agriculture” and wine tasting.
It was our great pleasure organizing the conference, which gave us the opportunity to meet and network with environmentalists from all over Europe, to exchange opinions, concerns and ideas. It is the first time that it is organized in the island, with our guests having the best impression.
