On February 3rd, the Pandoteira project celebrated World Wetlands Day at Lake Oroklini, with activities for all ages!
The visitors had the opportunity to explore water invertebrates and observe the birds of the lake through the appropriate equipment. There were also games and crafts for children.
This was followed by a short walk around the lake, at a point offering beautiful views of the lake, with expert members of the project team explaining to the participants the ecological importance of the area.
Why celebrate World Wetlands Day?
World Wetlands Day is an opportunity to remember the vital role wetlands play in the environment and human wellbeing. It is also an opportunity to raise public awareness about the need to conserve and sustainably manage wetlands. In addition, it gives us the opportunity to celebrate the beauty and biodiversity of wetlands. Lastly, World Wetlands Day promotes the importance of conserving these unique ecosystems for present and future generations.
