With our presence in the parliamentary committee on the environment regarding the process of selecting the relocation site for asphalt production plants, which took place on the 16th of November, we expressed our concern about the methodology used and the fact that each case is studied in an on an isolated and fragmented basis.

We recommend that a Special Spatial Planning Framework and a Strategic Environmental Impact Study be prepared which will: examine the various possible locations for the positioning of such plants and their potential environmental and cumulative impacts. This should be based on scientific arguments and documentation detailing the possible locations and mitigation measures of the potential consequences There is also a need to review heavy industrial planning zones that are adjacent to existing residential and commercial zones.
