Last March, the Department of Environment issued the Appropriate Assessment (AA) Report for the completion of the implementation of Phase A for the improvement of the main road network of the Akamas National Forest Park (NFP).

Phase A’ includes the following main forest roads, the improvement works of which have already started: Aspros Potamos – Toxeftra – Lara, Lara Circular and Toxeftra – Avakas – Lipati. The 3 roads fall entirely within two Natura 2000 Network areas, the Special Area of Conservation and the Special Protection Area Akamas Peninsula.

The AA Report on the completion of the implementation of Phase A for the improvement of the main road network of the Akamas NFP foresees the implementation of corrective measures and actions to remedy the environmental damage already caused by the improvement works of the 3 main forest roads.

Our Foundation will continue to actively participate in the process of re-evaluation of the remaining 8 main forest roads and the 14 management infrastructure nodes of the Akamas NFP Sustainable Development Plan, aiming to ensure the effective protection and integrated management of the Akamas Peninsula.
