HasNa (US) – funded projects (2013-2015)
Two seminars were held for prosecutors and judges and two for senior police in both communities.
The aim of these seminars was to inform participants regarding illegal bird trapping in Cyprus and to make them aware of practices in UK and US for effective enforcement of the law.
Two experts (UK and USA) were funded by HasNa to come and address separate Greek and Turkish Cypriot audiences. The events or Greek Cypriots were conducted in cooperation with the Game Fund and the office of the Attorney General.
The speakers also included a Cypriot member of Interpol on international wildlife crime. The events in the north were co-organised with the Biologists Association, a Turkish Cypriot NGO, assisted in organizing the events for their community.
On the premise that a better understanding of environmental issues leads journalists, informed reporting, our Foundation organized a bi-communal eco-journalism weekend on November 2014.
Practicing journalists, students in journalism and their teachers participated and later presented their case studies to an invited audience composed of NGOs and diplomats.
