The two-day celebration for European Natura 2000 Day was successfully completed, organized by our foundation, Terra Cypria, and the Department of Environment, within the framework of the “Pandoteira” project. The events took place on the 24th and 25th of May and offered young and old alike the opportunity to discover more about Cyprus’ protected areas and the importance of the Natura 2000 network.

Saturday – Cape Greco (24 May)
The programme began with an afternoon educational nature walk at Cape Greco. During the hike, participants learned about the area’s unique geology and biodiversity, and the experience concluded with an unforgettable sunset accompanied by live traditional music.

Sunday – Thalassa Museum, Ayia Napa (25 May)
The second day of the celebration was hosted at the Thalassa Museum in Ayia Napa, where a series of educational and hands-on activities took place:
• Bird ringing and release
• Educational games on marine life
• Treasure hunt for children
• Theatre workshop
• Guided tour of the museum
• Traditional carrot sweet workshop
• Documentary screenings on marine ecosystems and the Natura 2000 network

The activities were implemented with the support and participation of representatives from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, the Department of Forests, the Game and Fauna Service, BirdLife Cyprus, the Open University of Cyprus, and the Federation of Environmental Organisations of Cyprus.

We thank everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this two-day event.
