On July 17, curious minds gathered for a unique journey through the Pedieos Linear Park, uncovering the rich biodiversity thriving in the city’s core.
The walk, starting from the Ledra Palace, was a truly interactive experience. Participants made stops to observe local species, engage in discussions about urban greening and biodiversity, and even conducted a simple experiment: comparing the temperature of pavements in the sun versus in the shade. The results clearly demonstrated the crucial role that green spaces play in mitigating the urban heat island effect and fostering a healthier environment.
This event was part of Environmental Caretakers, an initiative of the Technical Committee on Environment. Led by Terra Cypria and Taskent Nature Park, the program aims to empower young people across the island to actively protect the island’s natural treasures through education and collaboration.
The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with OSASG-Cyprus.
