On Friday, 12 June, Zoe Makridou, Environmental Protection and Conservation Programmes Officer at Terra Cypria, led the thematic guided tour “Animals – Plants – Objects” at the exhibition Cyprus Island, organized by the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation as part of the European Archaeology Days 2026.

Participants had the opportunity to discover how Cyprus’s flora and fauna are reflected in objects of the island’s material culture and to explore their symbolism and significance throughout history.

The guided tour highlighted the close relationship between people and nature, demonstrating how many of the plant and animal species depicted in the exhibits continue to form an integral part of Cyprus’s ecosystems and natural landscape today.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity to connect our cultural heritage with the biodiversity of our island and to highlight the importance of protecting nature for future generations.

We would like to thank the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation for its collaboration and everyone who participated in this unique learning and exploration experience.
