On January 10, we enjoyed a sunny Sunday morning with the Technical Committee on Environment during a walk around the Larnaca Salt Lakes, taking in the calm wetland landscape and spotting early-morning birdlife.
With guidance from BirdLife Cyprus, participants moved between nearby viewpoints, learning basic birdwatching tips while discussing wetland habitats and Cyprus’s rich biodiversity.
While the landscape may look inviting, it is important to remember that walking on the salt lake is not permitted, as clearly indicated by signs along the trail. Our group observed the area from a safe distance; however, many visitors still step onto the lake’s banks, putting pressure on this fragile ecosystem and causing avoidable damage.
This event is part of the Environmental Caretakers project, led by Terra Cypria and Taskent Doğa Parkı, empowering the youth of the island to take active roles in protecting their natural treasures through education and collaboration.
This is a project of the Technical Committee on Environment, funded by the
European Union and implemented by the
United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with OSASG-Cyprus.
