Distinguished guests and many people honoured us with their presence at the two events that took place to celebrate World Wetlands Day, on February 2nd and February 5th .
The World Wetlands Day (WWD) is celebrated internationally and every year on 2nd of February. On this occasion our Foundation, in collaboration with BirdLife Cyprus, organized two events at Lake Makria at Lady’s Mile, on the 2nd and 5th of February.
On the 2nd of February, the recently upgraded birdwatching hide of Lake Makria was inaugurated by Mrs Nikoletta Gavriilidou – Limassol’s Assistant District Officer and Mr. James Coates – Policy Secretary of SBAA. On the 5th of February, the event was open to the public. At the event, people of all ages were able to enjoy the renovated bird hide of Lake Makria, the birds that inhabit the surrounding wetland through binoculars and telescopes and be informed about the importance of wetlands and their conservation.
During the events, representatives from several governmental departments of the Republic of Cyprus and the Administration of the Sovereign British Bases SBAA, along with other people that joined our events, had the chance to enjoy the magic scenery of the area and the upgraded bird hide of Lake Makria.
The events were organized under the framework of the MedIsWet Project, funded by MAVA – Fondation pour la Nature Terra Cypria – The Cyprus Conservation Foundation, and the Administration of the Sovereign British Bases (SBAA).
