With greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions continuing to rise and its climate action rated as &#8220;<strong>unsatisfactory<\/strong>,&#8221; the establishment of a <strong>legally binding National Climate Law<\/strong> is imperative.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Foundation&#8217;s new, updated Report (January 2025), with the scientific support of WWF Greece, analyses why the legislative absence in Cyprus jeopardises the achievement of climate goals and proposes a clear path towards a climate-neutral and resilient society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the Report Proposes:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Report suggests the structural elements of a modern Climate Law, which must include, among other things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Binding Target:<\/strong> Climate neutrality by <strong>2045 at the latest<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Energy:<\/strong> <strong>70%<\/strong> of electricity generation to be based on Renewable Energy Sources (RES) by <strong>2030<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Transport:<\/strong> Ban on the sale of diesel vehicles by <strong>2030<\/strong> and vehicles using any fossil fuel by <strong>2040<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Governance:<\/strong> Establishment of monitoring and accountability mechanisms, an independent scientific advisory body, and substantial citizen participation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Climate Law is the essential tool for the organised transition to a zero-emission economy, while simultaneously safeguarding human rights and bringing significant benefits to the economy and public health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the full Report and learn about the necessity of immediate climate action in Cyprus <strong>here<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cyprus is at a critical juncture.
