At the event, people of all ages will be able to enjoy the renovated bird hide of Lake Makria, the birds that inhabit the surrounding wetland through binoculars and telescopes and be informed about the importance of wetlands and their conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday, February 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 2022, honorary guests will be hosted at the bird hide of Lake Makria, as part of the celebrations of World Wetlands Day. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the area near the renovated bird hide and other restoration activities to protect the environment of the wider Lady\u2019s Mile area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The events are organized under the framework of the \u201cMedIsWet\u201d Program, funded by Terra Cypria \u2013 The Cyprus Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mava-foundation.org\/\">MAVA Foundation \u2013 Fondation pour la Nature<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbaadministration.org\/\">Administration of the Sovereign British Bases<\/a>&nbsp;(SBAA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake Makria is a Special Protection Area (SPA) for birds and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) for habitats and species of flora and fauna, in accordance with British Base Laws on \u2018\u2018Protection and Development of Game and Wild Birds\u2019 and \u2018Conservation of Wildlife and Natural Habitats\u2019.&nbsp;<strong>The area is characterized by rich biodiversit<\/strong>y that includes important habitats, plants, birds, invertebrates, and amphibians. The Lake is one of the few nesting areas of the Ferruginous duck and is an area where many other species of waterbirds are found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bird hide of Lake Makria was renovated as part of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/designrr.page\/?id=165148&amp;token=2760290812&amp;type=FP&amp;h=3100\">MedIsWet<\/a>\u201d program.
